Summary of Terms

Genuine application for a visa or permit

To determine whether your application for a visa or a permit is genuine, we’ll consider: 

  • all the evidence you supply to us to show that you’re coming to New Zealand with  genuine intent and for a lawful purpose

    and


  • any relevant information we may hold from any previous applications you may have made.  This may include:
    • whether you’ve previously overstayed
    • whether you’ve previously broken any visa or permit conditions
    • whether you have dependants who are unlawfully in New Zealand

and

  • your personal circumstances such as:
    • the strength of any family ties in your home country and New Zealand
    • the nature of any personal, financial, employment or other commitments you have in your home country and New Zealand
    • any circumstances that may discourage you from returning to your home country when your permit expires.
